About Bale Mountains National Park

Welcome to the Bale Mountains, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the most important high-altitude ecosystem in Ethiopia. This is where you will find the largest population of the Ethiopian wolf – the rarest canid on earth, with fewer than 500 remaining. You will drive across the Sanetti Plateau, the highest all-weather road in Africa (4,377 meters at its peak), where giant mole rats scurry and wolves hunt in the morning mist. You will trek through the Harena Forest, a cloud forest of juniper and heather, home to the endemic mountain nyala and Menelik's bushbuck. At Monpays Tours, we offer day trips, multi-day treks, and wolf-tracking excursions. Celebrate 20 years with a journey to the roof of Ethiopia.
