Then, step into the newly restored Unity Park (Menelik Palace) , where Ethiopian emperors once ruled. Walk through the Imperial Palace grounds, stand in the Throne Hall, and feel the weight of a civilization that remained uncolonized while the rest of Africa fell under European rule. Then the wild. A short flight takes you east to the Bale Mountains National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the highest mountain ranges in Africa. Here, you will spend five days trekking through a world that feels like another planet. You will cross the Sanetti Plateau the largest Afroalpine ecosystem on the entire African continent, sitting above 4,000 metres (13,000+ feet).
