About This Journey
Why This Journey Is Unlike Any Other in Africa.
Most travellers come to Ethiopia for either its deep history OR its wild landscapes. Monpays Tours gives you both seamlessly, comfortably, and unforgettably in just 7 days.
Your adventure begins in Addis Ababa, the vibrant capital often called the "Political Capital of Africa." But this is no ordinary city tour. You will come face-to-face with Lucy, the 3.2-million-year-old hominid that changed everything we know about human origins at the National Museum of Ethiopia. Then, step into the newly restored Unity Park (Menelik Palace) , where Ethiopian emperors once ruled. Walk through the Imperial Palace grounds, stand in the Throne Hall, and feel the weight of a civilization that remained uncolonized while the rest of Africa fell under European rule.
Then the wild.
A short flight takes you east to the Bale Mountains National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the highest mountain ranges in Africa. Here, you will spend five days trekking through a world that feels like another planet. You will cross the Sanetti Plateau the largest Afroalpine ecosystem on the entire African continent, sitting above 4,000 metres (13,000+ feet). This is the land of the critically endangered Ethiopian Wolf, the rarest canid on Earth. Only 500 remain, and you will walk through their hunting grounds.
You will trek past volcanic basalt pipes and granite boulders left by ancient supervolcanoes. You will stand on the summit of Tullu Deemtu (4,377m) , Ethiopia's second-highest peak. You will camp beside the stunning Garba Guracha Crater Lake, its deep blue waters reflecting the African sky. You will descend from the windswept highlands into the steamy, lush Harenna Forest a tropical rainforest teeming with monkeys, birds, and hidden waterfalls. In five days, you will experience three completely different ecosystems: grassland savannah, lunar-like Afroalpine moorland, and dense jungle.
And we take care of everything.
You do not carry heavy bags. Our team provides horses and handlers to carry all camping gear. An experienced English-speaking guide leads the way. A dedicated cook prepares hot, nourishing meals on the trail. We supply tents and mattresses you only need your sleeping bag and sense of adventure.
After five days of trekking, you return to Addis Ababa not just with photos, but with stories. On your final night, we take you for last-minute souvenir shopping at Shiro Meda or the African Village market grab handwoven Ethiopian cotton, spices, coffee, or a beautiful cross necklace. Then sit down for a traditional farewell dinner with live Ethiopian music and the famous shoulder-dancing Eskista. You will eat injera with your hands, taste doro wat and kitfo, drink tej (honey wine), and celebrate the end of an incredible journey.
Then we transfer you directly to Bole International Airport for your flight home tired, happy, and already planning your return to Ethiopia.
Who Is This Trip For?
This is for the traveller who wants more than a checklist. The one who wants to walk where early hominids walked, climb mountains few tourists ever see, and return home with a deep, authentic connection to one of Africa's most fascinating and misunderstood countries. You do not need to be a professional trekker just reasonably fit and hungry for adventure.
