The Rift Valley's gateway city
Adama (formerly Nazret) is one of Ethiopia's largest and fastest-growing cities, set on the floor of the Great Rift Valley about 99 kilometres southeast of Addis Ababa. A major transport and commercial hub, it is the natural gateway between the capital and the eastern and southern regions. Its warm, dry climate and wide palm-lined avenues give it a relaxed, semi-tropical feel. Nearby, the Sodere hot springs feed naturally warm pools on the banks of the Awash River, and the city is a convenient base for excursions to Awash National Park and the Rift Valley lakes.
