About The Omo Valley Tribes

Welcome to the Omo Valley, the most culturally diverse place on the African continent. Here, over a dozen distinct ethnic groups live as they have for centuries, isolated by rivers, mountains, and tradition. You will meet the Mursi women who wear clay lip plates – a symbol of beauty and maturity. You will witness the Hamer bull-jumping ceremony, where young men leap over cattle to become adults. You will climb the hills of the Kara people to photograph their painted bodies against the bend of the Omo River. And you will sail to the Dassanech delta to meet the "people of the river." At Monpays Tours, we offer respectful, community-supported visits to these remarkable cultures. Celebrate 20 years with a journey to the living museums of humankind.
