About Simien Mountains National Park

Welcome to the Simien Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called the "Roof of Africa." Here, the continent rises to jagged peaks, plummeting canyons, and high-altitude plateaus where the air is thin and the views are infinite. Ras Dashen, Ethiopia's highest peak at 4,550 meters (14,930 feet), towers over a landscape of dramatic escarpments that drop 1,500 meters to the lowlands below. But the Simiens are not just about altitude and views. This is the last stronghold of the Walia ibex (a wild mountain goat found nowhere else), the place where gelada baboons sit on cliff edges watching the sunrise, and the home of the rare Ethiopian wolf. At Monpays Tours, we offer treks from 3 to 10 days, camping in the mountains, walking with armed scouts, and sleeping in Africa's highest lodge. Celebrate 20 years with a trek to the roof of Africa.

What Makes It Special

Trek to the edge of the Jinbar Valley, a 1,500-meter vertical drop
Watch gelada baboons graze on the plateau – the only place on earth to see them
Search for the rare Walia ibex, an endangered mountain goat found only here
Stand on the summit of Imet Gogo (3,926 meters) for the most spectacular view in the Simiens
Trek to Ras Dashen (4,550 meters) – the highest peak in Ethiopia (requires 5–6 days)
Camp under the most brilliant starry skies of your life
Spot the rare Ethiopian wolf hunting giant mole rats on the plateau
